Sketch-to-Image

This tool allows you to upload an unfinished drawing from your phone or computer, and turn it into a realistic image. It’s incredibly useful for rapid prototyping & visualization variations, especially when paired with our other tools.

Prep Guidelines for best results:

  • Upload an image that is at least 768×768 resolution, PNG format
  • Create one product at a time
  • Don’t overlap objects (such as one shoe in front of another)
  • Clean outlines of the products work best.
  • Don’t add backgrounds or additional shapes, shadows, or embellishing design elements to the composition. These objects may get interpreted as part of the product.
  • If you’re using a smartphone to take a photo of a drawing, and shadows appear to be adding unwanted elements, retake the picture with Flash on or use our Remove Background tool first.

Video Demonstration

In this video, we will upload a drawing and turn it into a realistic 3D photograph in just under a minute. Please turn up your volume to listen to the designer.

Adjustment Sliders

The sketch to image tool has three adjustment sliders, called Guidance.

By default, they’re set to the maximum strength. In our testing, this setting provides the most realistic representation, but it may depend on the kind of input image, so please experiment and share your outcomes in our Discord Community. Please watch the video for a demonstration of what these sliders do, and learn more about each Guidance Setting in the Glossary below.

Glossary & FAQ

Positive Prompt – These are the words or sentences that describe what you want to see. The system can understand a maximum combination of 77 total “tokens” or fragments of words/topics. These are shared between Positives and Negatives. The words towards the beginning of a prompt have the most weight. To give words more weight, you can wrap them in (round parentheses)

Negative Prompt – Exclude words or concepts from an image. For example, you may want to exclude illustration, drawing, a certain color, or a certain style, fabric, or material. You can make negatives stronger with [square brackets].  Please check our Prompting Advice page for more tips on Positive/Negative.

Prompt Slider – This slider controls how closely you want the render to follow your prompts. The lower the slider, the more freedom and creativity Kenna takes with your image. The higher the slider, the more strict and accurate it will hold to your prompt.

Lines Slider – This slider controls how closely you want your image to follow the lines of your uploaded image. The lower the slider, the more freedom Kenna has to alter the lines and render output. The higher the slider, the more accurate to the lines of the uploaded image.

Image Slider – This slider controls how much your image is allowed to change. Simply put, if you upload a drawing or sketch and place this slider on 0, your rendered image will likely look like a drawing or a sketch. The higher this slider, the more freedom you give Kenna to alter the image and render something realistic or totally different than what was uploaded.
